Goals for the Year

In Kangaroos we are enthusiastic about our learning. Our day in Reception is full of creative, inspiring and challenging activities. We learn through focused teaching and play.Throughout the year, we like to cook, create models, plant and grow and look at the changing seasons. We venture out and explore our local community by taking trips to the Fire Station and pond dipping at Gunnersbury Triangle. Our Christian values are at the heart of everything we do, this is highlighted in our class ‘Golden Rules’. Fun facts about Kangaroos class- We love to dance and sing and creating artistic masterpieces in the craft area.

Curriculum Statement

We develop our reading and writing skills through the Read Write Inc scheme. We read and explore stories through play, drama and fun activities. We particularly enjoy exploring stories such as “The three little wolves and the big bad pig” by Eugene Trivizas, “Supertato” by Paul Linnet and “Not a stick!” by Antoinette Portis. We flourish as mathematicians using the Maths Mastery approach. We learn mathematical skills and concepts using songs, practical and written activities. By the end of the Reception year, we will be prepared for learning in Key stage 1.

PSHE

A large focus in PSHE has been learning about our emotions and how to regulate ourselves when we become upset of angry. We have listened to lots of social stories and had circle time discussions as part of our lessons.

Workshops & Trips

This year we have taken part in a minibeast workshop run by ‘Wild Fangs’. We got to interact with the minibeasts and learnt lots of interesting facts about them. One of our topics is about people who help us. We have been lucky enough to have had visits from the police and fire brigade! Our favourite part was looking inside a real fire engine. We have a trip to Hampton Court coming up soon which we are very excited about!!

Take a look at this!

We are very creative in Kangaroo Class and can often be found making models with different materials and making up our own stories in the role play area.
